The Illuminated Stage Theatre Company
“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.”
— Oscar Wilde, playwright and poet
Here's How We Illuminate
Strengthening the community and shaping its future by igniting the creative spirit in its residents.
“A vibrant arts and cultural community increases the quality of life and economic value of the city’s living and working environment. Further, arts and cultural activities provide diverse opportunities for individuals to experience and participate in the arts, promote inclusion, and often foster civic engagement."
Lynch, R. (2012). ‘Arts and Economic Prosperity IV’ Proves that Arts Industry is Resilient Even in a Down Economy
Education Through the Arts
Education Through the Arts programs and activities address the need for cultural and performing arts opportunities for area. Our initiative includes Summer Workshops for Young Artists, After School Theatre Workshops for Young Artists, a comprehensive theatre arts program for children. Through exposure to theatrical practice, students may develop important skills (creative expression, public speaking, conflict resolution, stress management, effective communication, meaningful collaboration) while learning to nurture empathy and build trust.
Education Through the Arts also includes the development of original, SOL-correlated scripts to be offered to students at the The Baxter Perkinson Center for The Arts or at their schools. Properties in development are Buffalo Soldier: The Cathay Williams Story by Nora Ogunleye and Pocketful of Coal Dust (Silver Needles) music, book and lyric by Julie Fulcher-Davis, a story about a young girl with big dreams and a brave heart growing up during the Depression in an Appalachian coal mining town. Each production includes ancillary educational materials for students and teachers.
Main Stage Shows
Main Stage productions take place throughout the year at our new home, The Baxter Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education. Selections include musicals, comedies, dramas and special theatrical events that appeal to audiences of all ages. When appropriate, special performances will be offered to students in area schools.
Theatre has the transformative power to engage, to inspire, to connect as well as to heal. Our Classes offer young students the exceptional opportunity to look within to find their own uniqueness. They will also encourage narratives about our commonalities and the importance of inclusivity thus strengthening interpersonal and intra-personal skills while boosting individual self awareness, self esteem and self worth.
We also offer Master Classes to the experienced Actor, young and old alike, looking to continue their growth and strengthen their skills in the craft of Acting.
" Great theatre is about challenging how we think and encouraging us to fantasize about a world we aspire to."
